『上善は水の如し（じょうぜん は みずのごとし）』
老子（紀元前６世紀の中国春秋時代の哲学者 道教の始祖）
「最高の存在とは水のようなものである。人が嫌がる低いところへ流れ、そこにとどまる性質がある。水というのは柔らかく弱い存在であるかのように思えるが実際には岩をも砕く強さがある。水は弱く、争わない存在であるが 結局は勝利をおさめる。中途半端に強くなろうとせず、水の如くあえて弱さを選択するのもひとつの方法である」
The highest good is like water.

‘The Supreme Being is like water. It has the property of flowing to a low place where people do not like to go and staying there. Water seems to be a soft and weak being, but in fact it has the strength to break rocks. Water is a weak, uncontested entity, but in the end it triumphs. It is one way of daring to choose to be weak, like water, instead of trying to be strong half-heartedly.’
所感：
老子は、道教の基本的な教えである「道」の概念を提唱した。その思想は、自然との調和、無為（無心の行動）、自由な生き方を重視するものでした。
この「道」という表現は、終わりがなく、常に続いていくことを表し、すべてのその途上にあるという意味のようにも取れます。私の書棚に、日本基督教団で松本教会の牧師を務めた小倉和三郎先生の「途上に生きる」（キリスト新聞社）という古い書籍がある。この表題を見るたびにただひたむきに、ゆっくりであっても歩み続けることが大切なのだと考えさせる。
その道の途中では、利己を超えて関わることを第一とし、相手を敬い、自己の不備や弱さを謙虚に受け入れること。そうした中でも、紆余曲折あるものの、向かう方向は一定で、誠実に、時間を積み重ねていくことが大切なのかと考えさせられます。

Lao-tzu proposed the concept of ‘the Way’, which is the fundamental teaching of Taoism. This philosophy emphasizes harmony with nature, inaction (action without thought) and a free way of life.
The expression ‘the way’ suggests that there is no end and that it is always continuing, and it can also be taken to mean that we are all on the way. On my bookshelf, I have an old book called ‘Living on the Way’ (published by the Christ Shimbun Press) by Wasaburo Ogura, who was a pastor at the Matsumoto Church of the Japan Christian Church. Every time I see the title of this book, it makes me think that it is important to continue to walk, even if it is slowly and single-mindedly.
On the way, I want to put the emphasis on getting involved beyond self-interest, respecting others, and humbly accepting my own shortcomings and weaknesses.
Despite twists and turns, the direction we are heading in is constant, and I think it is important to be sincere and to build up time.
